Summary

Here in Boulder County we like to believe that we do a little better for our youth than in other parts of the state or country. We're not sure how to break this to you but we don't.

In the most recent survey of high school youth one third of lesbian, gay, bisexual and questioning students and almost half of transgender youth report being bullied (LGBTQ). From bullying, to feeling like teachers don't care about their success, to drug use, to suicide rates our LGBTQ youth are reporting heartbreaking numbers related to questions about their daily life.

Based upon these horrific numbers and the current climate a generous individual has stepped forward to offer a $15,000 challenge grant for our Youth Program. This money comes from someone who knows we're having a positive impact on your youth but that our program needs to expand to address emerging needs.

Our direct service programs for youth include multiple social-support groups, tutoring, homeless and foster outreach, sober-social activities including an annual dance, a film project and employment of youth interns.

In these uncertain times our youth are more at risk than ever before. It is likely that a direct anti-LGBT executive order is still to come and already transgender youth are being targeted. As the government tries to chip away at equality we need to stand up for our LGBTQ youth.

It's easy to give and every gift matters. You can make a one-time or a recurring gift, and gifts of $1000 or more can be spread over two years.
